Students in Bill Sprague’s auto body class at Tahlequah’s Indian Capital Technical School spent all semester fusing a Chevy S-10, but they had a problem: what to do with the newly-repaired pickup.
So they decided to donate it to someone who needed it, Benny Peace,77, a Vietnam-era veteran.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” he said. “I’m so grateful.”
Peace, who spent his post-military life working in trades from mechanic to refrigeration, said he’s glad the students are at the school.
“It’s good to see somebody learning a trade instead of how to run a computer.”
The truck was donated to the school by Travis Lane at Muskogee’s Three Rivers Collision.
“I just know when they work on people’s vehicles, the teacher spends as much time dealing with the owners as teaching,” he said. “I just wanted them to be able to concentrate on the vehicle.”

A Tahlequah Emergency Medical Technician with Tahlequah City EMS was in the right place at the right time late last night, according to a police report.
EMT Matt Young was responding to a call of a twisted knee at the intersection of Allen and Vinita Streets in Tahlequah when he heard screaming coming from the house at 420 Allen Road. A bystander opened the door and yelled, “He’s beating the shit out of her!”
Young immediately went to the door and observed a man on top of and behind a female, choking her with one hand and punching her in the head and face with the other hand. Young immediately grabbed the man’s hand to pull it away from the woman’s throat, but the man was able to wrestle it free and begin choking her again.
Young tried pulling the man’s hand away again but was unable to, so he punched the man in the face and was able to pull the hand away. He then rolled the man onto his stomach and restrained him until police arrived.
The victim, whose name we are not reporting, had returned home from a party, but her boyfriend had stayed at the party, witnesses told police. Joey Case, who was at the house, was unknown to the victim, but apparently known to others at the house. The victim prepared spaghetti around 7:30 p.m. before leaving for the party. When she returned around 9:30, she left the door unlocked so her boyfriend could return. She told police she went to bed and fell asleep. She said she was awakened by Case “rubbing all over me.”
She pushed the man away and told him no, but he kept touching her, she reported to police. He then began pulling her clothes off. She began screaming at him to stop and hit him to get him to leave her alone, but he held her down and began touching her sexually after pulling her clothes off. She pushed him away and tried to roll away, but he grabbed her around the throat and began to choke, she said. Several times, she felt as if she might pass out, the report states.
Case was arrested first-degree attempted rape, first-degree burglary, assault and battery and public intoxication.
